Caviar
70Brother can you spare 1 oz of caviar?
Sure times are tough but when is the right time to indulge in a special treat? Holidays, family get togethers, Valentine's Day, birthday's and aniversaries are all great times to enjoy caviar. Sure if you are wealthy then nothing beats some caviar sprinkled on top of eggs for breakfast. If you are like most of us then the caviar comes out when you are about to ask a woman to marry you or for a holiday gift to a special friend or client. Special occasions are made more memorable by adding someting out of the ordianary.
For some people caviar can be a little scary. People aren't exactly certain what it is or where it comes from so they approach it nervously. The truth is that I'll bet you eat caviar pretty often and never really thought about it.
Caviar where you least expect it!
OK really it is fish roe not caviar!
Fish roe what is that? Technically speaking caviar is the processed fish roe (eggs) of certain species of fish usually sturgeon which may be called black caviar. You might also process salmon and call that red caviar. A purist will tell you that only the fish roe of the sturgeon can trully be called caviar. It is commercially marketed worldwide as a delicacy by companies like CaviarLover.com and often eaten with hors d'oeuvres as well as sushi. So now you know, you've been eating it all this time.
If you have an aniversary coming up or any special occasion such as Valentine's Day or you need a special holiday or birthday gift this is something that will long be remembered after all the gift cards, ties, shirts and home appliances have been forgotten.
So now the question is how do you eat caviar if you buy an ounce and it isn't on sushi or hors d'oeuvres; how do you eat it by itself? The answer is that the taste is best enjoyed by itself. Fish roe can be eaten on crackers or cut up some toast into small squares and spread the roe on the little squares. There are all types of caviar accessories for serving that will make you look like a true gourmet when you serve your guests. If you have a special occasion coming up and you really want to do it right get some Blini for serving. Blini are yeast-leavened, white flour pancakes. Classically they are served with sour cream and caviar or smoked salmon.

Beluga, Iranian, Caspian - What does it all mean?
Traditionally caviar is fish roe that comes from Iran or Russia from a large fish, the sturgeon. Other types of fish roe are sometimes called caviar but in the pure sense of the word they are fish roe. The sturgeon is a very big fish and like a tuna can weigh in at up to 300 pounds. Fishermen harvest sturgeon in the Caspian Sea. There is a specific species of sturgeon called beluga which is considered to be the best caviar in the world. Perhaps it depends upon who you ask because others will tell you the Osetra sturgeon which is a little smaller than the Beluga has the most prized caviar in the world. You can read more about this type here: Ossetra Caviar.
Enjoy your special occasion!
